General Information

The New Presidents Forum, taking place January 10-12 in Alexandria, Virginia, is an annual event organized for all new United Way executives. It is part of the onboarding process to welcome and engage new United Way CEOs, Executive Directors, and new board members in United Way's priorities and provide an overview on our strategic direction. This event is an opportunity to learn, network, gain a better understanding of the United Way business model and learn how to execute on it. Participants will spend the time meeting United Way Worldwide leaders, learning from prominent network leaders and sharing best practices.

United Way leaders will learn about the latest resources and opportunities available to them. They will learn how to lead their organization in the new strategic direction and how to achieve the greatest possible impact in the community.

CEOs will gain a better understanding of United Way’s network priorities and business model. They will learn how to execute on the business model, leverage best practices and access the latest resources as well as their peer network. Additionally, CEOs will learn about key leadership competencies required for success in the United Way organization.

After the forum, all new Presidents, CEOs and Executive Directors will understand:

  • - United Way’s strategic direction
  • - How to execute on the United Way Business Model, with a focus on Community Impact, Resource Development and Marketing
  • - Elements of leadership needed to drive and change results: Board resources available

Registration Information

The registration fee for the New President's Forum is $595 prior to December 16, 2016 and $695 after.  A scholarship of $200 will be automatically calculated for small city United Ways (with less than $1 million in current year support), state organizations and International United Ways.  Please make sure that you enter your correct organization number to receive the discount.


    Hotel Reservations

    A block of rooms have been reserved at the Sheraton Suites Old Town Alexandria for those attending the United Way New Presidents Forum. Reservations must be made on or before December 16, 2016. After  December 16, 2016, rates will not apply and housing requests will be accommodated on a space available basis only. Call the Sheraton at 888-627-1049/800-325-3535 to make your reservations and check availability. The room rate is $139 plus taxes per night and includes complimentary parking, internet and a hot breakfast. The Sheraton will extend the discount rate for 2 prior nights if rooms are available. United Way Worldwide cannot assume responsibility for any non-refundable sleeping room deposits.  Please use this housing link to make your reservations.

    Hill Meetings

    As part of the New Presidents Forum, United Way Worldwide will schedule meetings with your congressional representatives for the morning of Tuesday, January 10. These Hill meetings provide an opportunity for you to tell federal policymakers about the important work your United Way is doing and to advocate for key network priorities that advance the common good. Participants should plan to participate in a training webinar and be ready to head to the Hill at 8am on January 10th.*

    The Hill visits are an important element of the New Presidents Forum experience.

    *Note: Presidents must be available to head to the Hill by 8am on Tuesday, January 10. Transportation will be provided to Capitol Hill. We will not be able to accommodate visits for Presidents who arrive after 8am. Should you have any questions, please contact
